Plastic Surgery – Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation occupies a prominent place in the list of popular plastic surgery procedures. It uses breast implants to make the breasts bigger and enhance their contour. Whether it is just to restore the lost volume and shape of their breasts, or to enable them to wear more revealing attire; women of different ages can get great results from breast augmentation.
What the Procedure Involves
The procedure, performed commonly with a general anesthetic, takes no more than two hours to complete. After anesthesia has been administered, the incision can be placed in the armpit, under the breast at the crease or around the nipple. Once the incision has been made, either a submuscular (beneath the pectoral muscle) or subglandular placement (over the pectoral muscle) of the implant is done. The final step is the closing of the incisions using dissolving, layered and fine sutures. The sutures would be taped to ensure greater support.
The Cost
Several factors determine the amount you would have to spend on going in for a breast augmentation. These include:
• Where the surgeon is located and his experience
• The choice of implant
Benefits of this Procedure
Common benefits associated with the breast augmentation procedure are:
• More shapely, attractive breasts.
• It is safe and the breasts appear and feel natural.
• Scars, though there, are well-concealed.
• Long-lasting results.
A Word of Caution
Breast augmentation is no doubt a thoroughly advantageous procedure. However, it carries its own possible risks like ruptures, hematoma, and capsular contraction. A patient must first discuss these risks with the concerned practitioner and only proceed with the procedure if she is sure that the benefits would far outweigh the likely risks.

Can a woman have breast reduction surgery during pregnancy?
A lady I know says she is 5 or 6 weeks pregnant and says her doctor says it is ok to have breast reduction surgery? I seriously doubt it. It is not a matter of life or death.
is there anyway to give myself a breast lift with out getting surgery?
I feel like my boobs arent as perky as they were… and I want them to be like they were. Is there anyway to give myself a natural breast lift??
How difficult was it to convince your insurance/ doctor that you needed breast reduction surgery?
I am considering breast reduction surgery as the weight of my breasts are killer on my back. I was wondering what people’s experiences when going to their regular physicians was? I’m hoping to get this run through my health insurance being that’s its a very expensive procedure and I feel like it’s medically necessary.
Anyway, I was just wondering about any hurdles anyone went through to get this done and any details about the experience itself.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Options
Breast augmentation surgery is the most common cosmetic surgery performed in the United States. Many women choose to have breast augmentation to not only look they way they have always wanted, but to also feel better about themselves.
In the past, plastic surgeons placed breast implants in front of the chest muscle, through an incision made in the crease of the breast or next to the areola. While these are still the most common breast augmentation surgeries, plastic surgeons have quite a few more choices for both the placement of the breast implant, as well as where the incision is made.
There are three different types of incisions for the breast augmentation surgery:
· Inframammary Fold Incision – made in the natural crease of the breast
· Transaxillary Incision – made in the natural crease in the armpit; breast implant is placed with the aid of an endoscope
· Areola Incision – made in the tissue where the dark skin of the areola meets the light skin of the breast
There are also additional choices for where the breast implant is placed behind the breast:
· Over the Muscle – breast implant is placed behind the breast tissue, in front of the muscle
· Partially Under the Muscle – upper 2/3 of the breast implant is placed behind chest muscle, while bottom 1/3 is supported by natural breast tissue.
· Completely Under the Muscle – the chest muscle covers the upper 2/3 of the breast implant, while the lower 1/3 is supported by the chest muscle connective tissue called the fascia.
The differences in the incision placement and the implant placement not only change how the breasts will look after the surgery, but they also determine where any resulting scars will be.
By concealing scars within the natural folds, or creases of the body, your plastic surgeon can provide you with wonderful breast augmentation results without any noticeable evidence of having cosmetic surgery.
After working with the plastic surgeon, you will be able to determine which type of incision and breast implant placement will work best to provide you with the results you want. Some plastic surgeons specialize in only one version of breast augmentation surgery. However, surgeons like Dr. Hendricks in Newport Beach, California, are skilled in all aspects and types of breast augmentation surgery.
Although a crease or areola incision and over the muscle breast implant placement is the most common form of breast augmentation, a skilled surgeon can provide equally successful results with any of the incisions or breast implant placements.
