Advice on How to Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation is a serious decision that requires careful thought and planning. A thorough understanding is necessary to make an informed decision. Read on for advice on how to mentally prepare for breast augmentation surgery.
Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation With Research
Breast augmentation is an elective procedure. Since you initiate the process, take some time to research the procedure on your own. The Internet is a perfect device for learning about the benefits and limitations of breast augmentation surgery. DocShop.com is a patient education source that can answer many of your questions. Another source of information can be gathered from the experience of friends who have undergone breast augmentation.
Advice on How to Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery: The Consultation
A consultation will assist with mental preparation prior to breast augmentation surgery. Be open with your cosmetic surgeon about your expectations from the procedure. You should receive the same level of honesty regarding potential results. The surgeon will conduct a medical examination, which includes an assessment of your breast health and skin tone.
During the consultation, you will make some guided decisions about the breast implants. Two types of implants are available: silicone and saline. Saline implants are encased with silicone. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel.
Other factors you need to consider for breast augmentation are the size, shape and profile for the implants. Implants can be round or more naturally shaped. They can also project differently. The surgeon will advise which implants are best proportioned for your figure.
Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery With Realistic Expectations
A good candidate for surgery is mentally and physically stable and understands the reality of what breast augmentation can achieve. Breast augmentation can help you look and feel more confident. However, it will not repair a romantic relationship and should not be considered a quick fix to self-esteem.
Patients in the midst of an abnormally stressful environment may be advised to postpone breast augmentation surgery. It’s also important to understand that breast augmentation is not permanent and that your breasts will continue to change. A commitment to regular follow up examinations is necessary to ensure the health of your breasts and implants. Some situations may call for removal or replacement.
Advice on How to Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation: Understand the Risk
Be aware of surgical risks such as infection, reaction to the anesthesia and excessive bleeding. Breast augmentation carries uncommon, additional risks. Potential complications may include nipple sensitivity or numbness. Implants can also leak, rupture or become firm.
Advice on How to Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery: Cost
Understanding breast augmentation cost is essential to preparing for surgery. The surgeon’s fee for breast augmentation is usually between $3,000 and $4,000. Additional costs should also be considered, such as operating facility fee and anesthesiologist fee. Your cosmetic surgeon may be able to provide financing options.
Advice on Breast Augmentation Surgery: Preparation and Recovery
The doctor will provide detailed instructions concerning your role in preparation and safe recovery. You should follow pre-operative and post-surgical directions carefully. Following breast augmentation surgery, ample rest is required during the first few days. You can return to work within seven to ten days and resume your exercise program after a few weeks.
You may experience significant discomfort during the early post-operative period. Swelling and bruising are common side effects that should subside with time. Your body will need time to adjust to the implants. It can be several weeks before the surgical results are apparent.
Mentally Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery With an Experienced Surgeon
You can be more confident and mentally prepared for breast augmentation surgery by locating an experienced surgeon. Before you agree to the procedure, ask for credentials and verify board certification. A qualified plastic surgeon is board certified by an accredited organization, such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

How to Prepare for the Day of your Breast Augmentation Surgery
There are many different forms of motivation for undergoing breast augmentation surgery. Common reasons are to enhance size, create symmetry, to improve appearance or to reconstruct. The following provides general information on how to prepare for the day of your breast augmentation surgery. Bear in mind, these guidelines are no substitution for the recommendations of a qualified plastic surgeon.
Schedule a Consultation to Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery
A consultation is necessary prior to breast augmentation, during which you can describe your expectations. As breast augmentation surgery is customized for each patient, the consultation is an interactive process between you and the surgeon. Direct communication is essential for the success of your surgery.
Preparing for the Day of Your Breast Augmentation Surgery: Deciding on Implants
The cosmetic surgeon will conduct a medical examination, evaluating your overall health and the condition of your breasts and skin. Based on the results, the surgeon will guide you in determining an appropriate course of treatment. You will need to decide on the type, size, shape and profile of the breast implants. For patients with sagging breasts, a breast lift may be recommended in addition to breast augmentation surgery.
There are two types of breast implants approved by the FDA: saline and silicone. Saline implants have a silicone rubber casing and filled with a saline solution similar to your body chemistry. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. The implant casing may be smooth or coarse. The surgeon will explain the details for each.
During the consultation, you will also learn the breast augmentation surgery cost. Cost varies for each individual, and depends on geographic location and the surgeon’s expertise. Ask your cosmetic surgeon about financing options.
Breast augmentation can be performed in an outpatient facility or hospital setting. The procedure may require general or local anesthesia. It’s important to know the type of anesthesia in order to prepare for the day of your breast augmentation surgery.
Understand the Benefits and Limitations of Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast Augmentation can improve appearance and restore confidence. It can also provide lasting benefits. However, realistic expectations are essential.
Your breasts will continue to change with time. There is also a chance that the implants will need to be removed or replaced. Regular examinations are necessary to evaluate the condition of your breasts and implants.
Understand the Risks Associated With Breast Augmentation Surgery
All surgeries involve some degree of risk. Understanding the risks associated with breast augmentation will help you prepare for the day of surgery. Potential complications may include excessive bleeding, infection and reaction to the anesthesia. Sometimes breast augmentation can result in nipple sensitivity or numbness. In rare cases, implants can leak or rupture.
Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation Surgery Weeks in Advance
You will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare for breast augmentation surgery. You will be advised on certain medicines, vitamins, food and drink. For those who smoke, the surgeon will likely insist that you stop at least two weeks prior to surgery. Post surgical indications will also require no smoking.
Preparing the Day Before Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
The goal is to create a peaceful environment for returning home following surgery. Take care of last minute errands and fill all prescriptions. Stock the shelves with plenty of food and rent some favorite movies.
Arrange for a friend or relative to escort you home following breast augmentation surgery. Due to anesthesia, you will be unable to drive. It might also be a good idea to have someone around to assist you for the first few days.
The Day of Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
Wear loose clothing on the day of your breast augmentation surgery. Once the procedure is complete, you will be given a list of post-operative instructions. It’s important that you follow instructions carefully to ensure proper recovery.
