Internet Marketing Beginner: What are Backlinks and How Do I Get Them?

If you’ve been searching for ways to improve your internet marketing skills, you’ll most likely come across the term “backlinks”. They really mean links that are directed to your website. Backlinks are important because major search engines like Google ranks websites by taking into account how many quality backlinks they are associated with. This means that backlinks are a good measure of the popularity of a website.

There are lots of ways to get quality backlinks to your website, and here is what I personally do. Though it may be conventional, it certainly worked for me.

My inbox is constantly flooded with emails from marketing gurus promising perfect opportunities and the like. They usually offer a freebies like ebooks, videos or reports provided I sign up to be on their list. But don’t discount these emails without checking them out.

Don’t be surprised when I say I actually do read these emails, and yes, I do sign up to be on their lists. This is because, although most of the freebies wouldn’t help you one bit, you might find ones that are actually very good. You never know what you can gain by reading through them. But that is beside the point.

The point is I DO sign up to be on their lists. This might strike you as odd, because why would I even want to be on these lists? Despite the fact that I will continually be bombarded with their promises of good things that their products could bring me, what I’m aiming for is their websites. Most of these internet gurus will have highly established and ranked PR blogs or websites.

Here comes the kicker.

Once you’re on their lists, they will usually ask for comments regarding their latest whatnots. So, I leave a comment, making sure that I include my website address at the bottom.

Be sure that your email and website address are correct. And take care to leave valid comments, and not only the generic “That was great, thanks” sort. And there you have it, an easy way to get backlinks to your website.

Another great way to get backlinks to your website that I often use is to write and submit articles to article directories. Ezinearticles.com and Goarticles.com are good directories to start with. Search engines like Google and Yahoo regard these article directories as high quality content sites thus associating yourself to them gives you credibility on top of the high quality backlinks to your website.
