How long does it generally take for breast surgery scars to heal and disappear?
i have saggy breasts, so i have decided to go under the knife to “fix” it by having breasts lift and enlarged.
the doctor will also resize the urula or whatever its called ( dark circle around the nipples) to match my new pairs.
anyways, my Question is:
how long will it take for the scars to heal and fade away?
and will i lose the sensivity in my nipples afterwards?
thanks!

the part surrounding the nipple is the areoli, i had a bilateral mastopexy in 1992 the scars were healed within a month but they do not completely go but will flatten and go white but it is well worth a few scars if the operation helps you feel better about yourself, there is a small chance that you will lose sensitivity in your nipples it depends on certain factors, i didnt. good luck to you xxx
I am a mammographer. Breast lift scars are permanent and very noticeable. You will probably have a circular scar around your nipples and a vertical scar that goes from your nipple down to underneath the breast. If you are having AREOLAR resizing also, it is likely that you will lose all sensitivity in your nipples. Also, be aware that if you get implants as well, your natural breast tissue will be 90% hidden during your mammograms, making a breast cancer diagnosis much harder to find. You will also have twice the amount of films during your next mammogram one set with the implant in place and very gentle compression and another set where the implant is moved back and we compress only the natural tissue up front. it seems NO DOCTOR ever discusses this with the patient and they are always shocked when we move the implant back. Please PLEASE PLEEEAASSSEE discuss all of this with your surgeon.
The scars will heal in a couple of months, but even afterwards, for at least 6 months, you shouldn’t do anything really strenuous so that you not accidentally pull on the implants too hard and make the scar look less than its best or put an implant out of place. The redness of the scars will disappear gradually. The scars will go from red to less red to pink to gone. It takes 2 yrs. for all the pink to go away, but the areola will do a decent job of hiding it. If you are like most patients, the scars won’t bother you THAT much because you’ll be so tickled pink with your new appearance that (trust me on this one) you’ll probably show your ta-tas to anyone with any curiosity about how your surgery turned out. –Mark my words!
Where losing sensitivity is concerned, most people retain sensitivity. If sensitivity is lost, it is because a nerve was cut while cutting the areola. Remind your doctor to be extra careful with your nerves while going in, but don’t make him nervous. He can be extra careful, but I don’t think that he can do anything to completely prevent the possibility of some of the nerves being cut.
By the way, make sure that you get plenty of pain medication for no less than 2 weeks (although the first 3 days are the worst), because you will want to be comfortable while you’re recovering. Good luck! — I’m sure that you’ll be very happy.
