Did you have trouble breast feeding after a breast reduction?
I had a breast reduction 2 years ago. I recently gave birth 2 weeks ago. Although I appeared to be engorged, I only pumped very very small amounts of milk. My son was not able to get any out either. Could this be due to clogged or damaged milk ducts? My doctor assured me that I would not have problems, appears he was wrong. Anybody else had this problem?

thats hot
some women have a hard time breast feeding anyways. consult your doc for tips to make it flow better. i’ve heard that drinking one beer, or a glass of wine might help. there are also other things you can do, but if i were you i’d call the doc or do some online research to find out.
If you have milk he can get it out a pump may not get much because pumps don’t work as well…only give him the breast, watch for swallowing while hes nursing and count diapers…if he gets 6-8 diapers a day hes getting enough milk, ignore pumping amounts

contact a LC as soon as you can!!!
Avoid bottles to get your milk in as well as you can…and if you end up needing to supplement use a supplemental nursing system with donated breastmilk so that you baby can nurse at the breast and still be getting BM no matter what!
I had a reduction about 6 years before my first. At the time of my reduction my surgeon told me I would only have a 50% chance of being able to breast feed and that if I could it would probably only be about half of what was needed. The way my surgery was done my ducts were severed. For some women the ducts reattach over time. Ultimately I was not able to breast feed, because of my known issues I was working very closely with my doctor to monitor whether I could or not. I recommend http://www.bfar.org as a resource for you. And talk with your doctor so that you are working together to monitor your baby’s growth.
Wow, you got engorged? That’s definitely a good sign! I had a breast reduction 5 years ago, and when I had my daughter, my milk never really came in (no engorgement whatsoever!) I also had thyroid issues, so the combo of the two made it nearly impossible to breast feed.
I would speak to a certified lactation consultant, to see if they can help you out.
Please don’t deprive your child of nutrients in your quest to breastfeed. I made that mistake, and nearly lost my daughter (she was starving because she was getting NO breast milk…she had NO wet diapers for three days, NO poop diapers, she was listless, etc. ). If you need to supplement, then supplement! The point is to nourish your baby.
