Optimize Your Appearance With Breast Surgery

Written on July 29th, 2010 by no shouts

As the technology in breast augmentation surgery grows, more women welcome the procedure to improve their confidence, appearance, and physical appeal.

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammaplasty, is a form of breast surgery undertaken to reshape the breasts, creating a fuller look. In general, breast surgery is sought by women who have small or underdeveloped breasts – or women who have lost weight and find that their breasts are no longer the size and shape that they once were. Breast implant surgery is capable of restoring the volume of breasts lost as a result of multiple pregnancies and loss of weight.

With safe procedures and time-tested methodology, breast augmentation involves the implantation of prosthesis to achieve the perfect size and volume.

How breast augmentation improves your appearance

If you are not happy with your current breast size, you do not have to live with your insecurities. Whether you live on the West Coast or Asia, Honolulu’s best plastic surgeon can help you optimize your beautiful appearance. With a skilled procedure, breast implants can:

• Increase the fullness of the breasts, as well as the projection, to give you a youthful, voluptuous look

• Improve the overall balance and shape of your figure

• Assist you in developing more self-confidence and an improved self-image

It is important to be aware that breast implants can also be used for women who have suffered an injury to one or both of their breasts due to an accident, as well as for women who have undergone a mastectomy.

What breast surgery cannot accomplish

A woman contemplating breast surgery must understand the limitations of the procedure. You need to have realistic expectations about the outcome, or you will be disappointed with the end result.

If your breasts are extremely saggy, regardless of the reason, this type of surgery will not correct the problem. However, if you desire to have your breasts lifted and returned to a fuller appearance, then your Hawaii plastic surgery specialist may suggest a breast lift, followed by breast augmentation.

In some cases, the two procedures can be conducted simultaneously, but in other instances, they must be divided into two separate surgeries. Plastic surgeons look at each unique case to make the appropriate breast surgery decision.

Is breast augmentation right for you?

You should never have breast surgery to make anyone else happy. Only undergo breast implants for yourself to look and feel better about your body. After all, it is your body, and you will live daily with the results of the surgery.

Breast surgery is a good fit for you if you meet the following criteria:

• You are in good physical health

• You have realistic expectations for the outcome of the breast augmentation surgery

• You are over 18 years of age and your breasts are fully developed

• Your breasts vary in shape or size

• One or both of your breasts did not develop in a normal way

• You are disturbed by the change in shape and volume of your breasts as a result of childbirth, loss of weight, or the aging process

• You are tired of having small breasts and feel self conscious about them

The techniques utilized by Honolulu’s best plastic surgeon, along with other national leading specialists, mean that you undergo safe procedures that can create the look you desire for your body. Whether you want to improve your appearance or regain your youthful figure, breast augmentation may be a great way to achieve the body you deserve.

Breast Surgery Procedures – Lift, Augmentation And Reduction

Written on July 29th, 2010 by no shouts

Breast Augmentation improves the size and appearance of the breasts. Women choose breast augmentation because they feel their breasts are too small, there is a discrepancy between the size of the breasts, or for further reconstruction following other breast surgery.

For women who are physically healthy as well as realistic in their goals, breast augmentation can provide an effective cosmetic enhancement. Breast implants are filled with either saline or silicone.

Recent studies from major national and foreign institutions demonstrate no association between auto-immune disease or breast cancer and silicone breast implants. Further studies in progress will provide us with more information on this subject. During your consultation, we will review all of the medical issues associated with the breast augmentation procedure.

There are three possible locations for the incision: under the breast, around or within the areola, (the pigmented tissue surrounding the nipple), or within the armpit. The implants are placed either under the breast tissue or under the pectoralis major muscle and breast tissue. Incision sites and implant placement depends on a variety of factors, one of which is patient preference.

Surgery is performed with the patient fully asleep under general anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately two hours to perform. Sutures are removed in one week. Regular exercise may be resumed after four weeks.

Breast reduction serves various purposes for different people. Enlarged, pendulous breasts cause a variety of problems. The medical term for this problem is mammary hyperplasia. The weight of the breasts pulls down on the bra straps which in turn produces indentation of the shoulder skin and discomfort.

Along with shoulder and back pain, the surface under the breast may rub against the chest skin producing an irritating rash. Some women even experience difficulty with breathing because of enlarged breasts. Upon the removal of glandular tissue, fat and skin, a lighter, more attractive breast can be created. The lessened pressure on the chest alleviates overall discomfort and improves respiration.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes about three to four hours to perform. Sutures are removed within one week.

Some patients require neither a breast augmentation nor reduction. They have lost the elasticity of the skin of the breast either after pregnancy or weight loss. For these patients a Breast lift is performed.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is an operation to remove excess skin that has been stretched during pregnancy or weight fluctuation. The amount of skin removed is related to the degree of drooping of the breasts. Breast implants may by used at the same time when the breasts have lost substance due to pregnancy

Although there is some scarring with this procedure, women are pleased with the restructured shape and size of their breasts as well as with the way they appear in clothing and swimwear.

The patient undergoes general anesthesia with the surgery lasting three to four hours.

Careful Contemplation before Breast Surgery

Written on July 25th, 2010 by no shouts

No longer just for the rich and famous, more and more everyday people are opting for breast augmentation to improve their looks and hopefully their lives. There’s no doubt that this type of surgery can be used to positively improve your appearance and self confidence; however, it’s important to ensure you’re as prepared as possible for the operation and the changes it will bring about.

The British Association of Plastic Surgeons recommends women should wait until they’re 18 years-old before receiving breast implants, as their bodies are not fully developed before this age. If your body is still growing when you have breast augmentation then breasts that look natural at first can change and look and feel much less natural in just a few months or years.

Most teenagers also find their breasts look more voluptuous in their early twenties when compared to their teens, without the need for augmentation. The older you get, the more accepting you become of your body and the better you feel about yourself, meaning in a few years down the line you will be in a better position to decide whether or not you want augmentation surgery.

Another good reason to wait until your body has fully developed relates to your ability to recover after the operation. Breast augmentation is surgery after all and your body will need strength and time to recuperate afterwards.

However, if you’ve reached the stage where you have fully made up your mind that you do want to go ahead with breast augmentation then there are a few things you can do to help yourself before the operation. As you will be under a general anaesthetic you should stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the operation, as this minimises the risk of respiratory problems – alcohol should also be avoided 24 hours before the operation.

Some medicines and homeopathic remedies thin the blood and can interfere with blood clotting, so these should be ceased before surgery. Your doctor will be able to advise you on what you should do; alternatively you may find you have a pre-operative meeting with your surgeon or a nurse where these factors are discussed.

It is a good idea to take care of the more practical considerations too. For example, you may want to arrange for a friend or taxi to take you to hospital and pick you up afterwards. In addition, also have some ready prepared meals at home, as it means you won’t have to cook or strain yourself. Another useful tip is to lift any items down from high shelves – you certainly won’t want to stretch after your breast augmentation operation.

When it comes to clothes, comfort is imperative. It can prove wise to invest in a couple of jogging or support bras that don’t have underwiring, as this could be painful or even irritate any stitches and sensitive skin around the site of operation.

Of course, there is much to take into consideration before going ahead with breast surgery, particularly if you are a young woman. However, it is important that you take your time when making the decision to have breast augmentation, regardless of how old you are.

Five years ago I had breast reduction surgery and have had pain on my left side under my breast ever since. At first it was quite severe and my primary care physician said it was ” just nerve damage not to worry it will go away”. Now five years later it is still there but not as severe. However, when I do anything that involves really using that muscle ; I get sharp pains across my chest and cannot use my arm or the pain is too great. It’s affecting my ability to perform my job and I have to do something.
