A coworker and dear friend, who was a breast cancer surviver, died earlier this year. She was one of the first people that I made hats for when all of her hair came out after the chemo. She didn’t die from the cancer but I remember her long fight to beat the cancer.

MaryEllen Sheppard knew something was wrong as soon as she felt a thickened patch of skin on her right breast. She didn’t feel a lump, but knew the change was different enough to get it checked out. A mammogram and subsequent biopsy caught her by surprise. She had breast cancer.
