Dr. Susan K. Boolbol: Mammograms and The US Preventative Services Task Force
www.breastcancerdiscovery.com In this video, Dr. Susan K. Boolbol, Chief Breast Cancer Surgeon at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, talks about the recent announcement from The US Preventative Services Task Force regarding mammograms. Dr. Boolbol offers strong opinions on early mammogram screenings starting at age40 (in favor of!) for all women, Ductal carcinoma, biopsies, and the anxiety that women feel regarding breast cancer screening. Regarding the issue of anxiety, Dr. Boolbol declares “We disagree with the task force telling us how much anxiety a woman can handle!” Dr. Boolbol’s unwavering stance as an advocate for personal choice when it comes to woman’s breast cancer treatment options makes this video a powerful addition to the Dispelling the Myth’s video series.

Mozart (1/3) Piano Concerto in G, K. 453, I Allegro
Mozart – Piano Concerto in G, K. 453, I Allegro – Concert for the Cure – Boston – 12/5/10 Conductor: Sir Simon Rattle Pianist: Marc-André Hamelin Susan G Komen and Julie Scolnik, artistic director, present Concert for the Cure to help continue to raise funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. World-renowned music director of the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle, along with 75 esteemed musicians drawn from leading orchestras and chamber ensembles have come together tonight in a spirit of love and generosity to make music together. Long known for his bold exploration of unfamiliar pianistic terrain, Marc-André Hamelin is now recognized worldwide for the originality and technical brilliance of his performances of the classic repertoire. In 2005, Boston flutist Julie Scolnik underwent treatments for breast cancer. Throughout her treatments, music played an essential role in keeping her spirits high, and as artistic director of a chamber music series, she continued to organize and play concerts in wigs after she had lost her hair. In 2008, Scolnik reached out to her musical colleagues to present a full symphony concert to raise funds so that all women facing breast cancer could have the care and support they deserved. The funds raised from this concert go to the Komen Foundation to support awareness for breast cancer screening, treatment and educational programming to help women and men throughout Massachusetts.
