French breast implants threaten thousands

www.nma.tv/ Are breast implants worth it? Faulty breast implants by French company Poly Implant Prothese, or PIP, are definitely not. To cut costs, the PIP implants use industrial silicone instead of medical-grade silicone and are thus more prone to rupture. Some 40000 women in the UK and many more world wide have PIP breast implants. Breast augmentation operations are more popular than ever despite the bad economy. In the UK, the vast majority of women undergoing breast augmentation are doing so for cosmetic reasons at private clinics such as Transform and Harley Medical Group clinics. Over the past few years, many clinics have used PIP implants because of their low cost. Now that the risks are known, London has called upon private clinics to foot the bill for replacing the implants. The clinics are reluctant to do so, saying they purchased the implants in good faith and that they bore the European quality assurance CE mark. With French statistics showing a rupture rate of 5.5 percent, women face an unpleasant choice: shell out another £2800 for new implants, or live with silicone time bombs in their bodies.

Breast Augmentation – Surgery Day Experience

After Breast Augmentation Surgery Make sure you have someone to carry you home after surgery, and stay with you for at least the first 24 hours, preferably the first 48 hours. This is VERY important. Have reasonable expectations regarding the outcome of your surgery. You will be sore, tired, and irritable, so try to create a stress free environment to heal in. Drink a lot of water in the days prior to your surgery. This may help ward off nausea after your surgery (which is usually due to anesthesia). Eat something when you take your pain meds. Sometimes, a few crackers don’t do the trick. Eat a piece of plain, white bread, or a piece of toast, or 1/2 or a whole peanut butter sandwich. or soup and crackers. Pain meds can upset the stomach. Eating usually helps ward off any potential nausea. You will want to practice sleeping on your back and/or propped up on a wedge pillow, because you will be sleeping like this for a few days (at least) after your surgery. Have easy-to-wear clothes ready. You will be wearing button-up shirts for a week or so (possibly longer), so have these, and pull-on pants ready so that you don’t have to search for them after the surgery.
