Anyone had a breast reduction and then breastfed there baby?
I was wondering if anyone had gotten a breast reduction and then succesfully breast fed their babies?
Is it even possible?
How successful were you?

YES. IT IS POSSIBLE! I second the poster who encouraged you to check out the link to the kellymom.com website, which is managed by lactation consultants. They also have a forum. You have to register for it but it’s free and you could post your question there … that is if you want to directly connect with moms who have successfully breast fed after having had reduction surgery. Good luck and thank you for not risking your child’s health with synthetic milk.
It depends, yes for some and no for others. In many cases the milk ducts are severed. I am waiting until I am done having children to get mine done for this reason.
I had a reduction when I was 19, and now at 22 I was able to breastfeed. My supply wasn’t very good, and I could only feed for a couple of weeks, but they thought I wouldn’t be able to at all. The benefits of having the reduction still outweighed the cons because of how big I was. It’s really hard to tell who will be able to breastfeed and who won’t because every woman goes through it differently.
I had a friend who had a reduction done and she couldn’t breastfeed because they had moved her nipples and in the process it damaged her milk ducts.
I have heard that getting implants without a nipple move shouldn’t cause a problem. It is all a matter of whether the “plumbing” was kept connected.
hmmm i don’t know. Am sure if as long as you still have boobs it should work.
Yes there are.
Yes it is.
I don’t know yet.
Please check out http://www.bfar.org its an excellent site about breastfeeding after a reduction.
Also http://www.breasthealthonline.org is another good site.
It really depends on if you get a Free Nipple Graft done or not. If not, your chances are excellent. If so, your chances are good.
