Body Mass Index Calculation Simplified
Weight plays an important role because it tells us the state of health that we’re in. In many cases, it indicates the amount of fat present in the body. It’s not advisable to have excessive amounts of fat in the body as this is a precursor leading to many other health problems such as heart diseases, liver fatigue, and kidney stress. How to tell the amount of fat present in your body? Well, for starters you can use the BMI calculator. Many people wonder what Body Mass Index (BMI) is. In fact, BMI is generally used by doctors and is deemed as a reliable indicator to tell whether you have a healthy height to weight measurement.
Measuring weight alone may falsely present a person’s state of health. As it’s difficult to measure a person’s body frame, the next best measurement to use is height. To calculate BMI, you need to know your height and weight. To further increase the accuracy of BMI, it’s important to also measure your waist circumference. Where you store those excess fats tell much about your health because it has been proven that those with extra fats around the midriff area tend to develop heart disease and diabetes. Alongside with BMI, other ratios can also be used- for example, waist-hip ratio. You can find out more about the different ratios and measurements online.
Here’s how you can calculate BMI: (1) determine your height in meters and multiply that number by itself (height squared). (2) Determine your weight in kilograms. (3) Divide weight by height squared (in other words, use (2) to divide (1)). A score of 20-24 presents lowest health risk while 25-29.9 indicates a case of overweight. Women with a BMI score of over 25 and with waist measurement over 35 inches have an increased risk of developing health problems. This goes the same for men with waist measurement of over 40 inches. Exceptional cases of those with high score include athletes and pregnant women.
It is fairly easy to calculate your BMI. All you have to do is go online, and look for a site that provides a BMI calculator. Find out your score today for the sake of your health.

Choosing Which Breast Surgery Recovery is Best: Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift
When you are considering any sort of breast surgery, one of the first and foremost things that comes to a woman’s mind is the recovery. Typically, a woman wants to know what she will expect during her recovery including her limitations, guidelines to follow, when she can return to normal activity and how her body will look immediately after surgery.
Discomfort and Pain
Unlike the breast augmentation surgery, the recovery period for a breast lift can be longer. This is because the surgery to lift the breasts is more involved than a breast augmentation surgery. However, the plastic surgeon can prescribe a pain medication to help ease the discomfort associated with both surgeries. Breast augmentation recovery has mild to severe pain level depending upon whether or not the implant was placed above or below the muscle. A woman having breast lift surgery typically only reports mild pains after a breast lift surgery. Both surgeries can cause some nausea as well.
Likewise, swelling is a common byproduct of both surgeries and can vary on the type of surgery. Breast augmentation reports swelling to last anywhere from four days after surgery to two weeks, again depending upon whether the implant was placed above or below the muscle. However most breast surgery patients report swelling to last on average from two to three weeks.
Getting back to a Normal Lifestyle After Breast Augmentation
A patient having breast augmentation can usually return to a normal routine shortly after surgery. Among the activities that can be resumed within a week or two are:
*Work (without heavy lifting)
*Walking
*Light Jogging
This list is similar for breast lift surgery, but there are some slight differences in what constitutes normal activity. Breast lift patients should avoid strenuous activity and therefore should hold off on exercising for about three to four weeks. Breast lift patients will also make more follow up visits to the surgeon after surgery than those having breast augmentation surgery since there is more suturing involved and careful monitoring is needed.
Scarring and Other Issues
One of the benefits to breast augmentation is that the scarring is usually minimal. There are fewer incisions made and most incisions can be hidden. A breast lift, however, can have more extensive scarring that may be difficult to hide depending on the number of incisions that needed to be made and the amount of skin that was tightened.
A woman considering breast lift surgery should also wait until they are finished having children as the results of pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause breast sagging to reoccur. However, the procedure should not interfere with a woman’s ability to breastfeed. Conversely, with breast augmentation there can be a higher rate of insufficient milk supply, which can lead to poor weight gain in infants.
For the first few weeks and possibly even months, women receiving breast augmentation and breast lifts will notice that there is some bruising associated with the surgery. Their breasts will also sit higher and tighter until the breast become accustomed to their new form and settle into a normal position. Women who have breast lift surgery may also notice that there may be a difference in size and shape more than those women who undergo breast augmentation surgery.

Any way to reduce scarring after breast surgery?
Im 18 and 38FF cup and i really despise my chest [medical reasons, bad back at 18, clothes don't fit, unwanted attention, lost alot of weight so they don't look good etc] when im older and have more money i want to get a breast reduction/uplift.
I have seen before and after photos of this surgery and the scarring is pretty bad looking, is there a way to correct it after the surgery or have any treatment to reduce scarring or would i just have to wait a couple of years for it to fade?
[I am aware of the risks, i have talked to parents, bf, doctors etc about the decision to have the surgery in the first place and im not asking about that and not looking for the 'be happy with your body' comments, anyone who has any helpful info i would really really appreciate it, thanks =) ]
I live in northern Ireland and i don’t have any insurance to cover it due to the free health care on the NHS i know i can get it there if i meet certain requirements but i think i have to be over a certain age which i’m not at the minute.
What are the pros and cons to a breast reduction?
I am considering a breast reduction. I want to know all the possiblities. Also what is the recovering time? What time frame would I need to be off work?

But I want to know at what age is it safe to get breast implants?
I want to be sure that my breasts are done growing by themselves before i consider going under the knife.
How Much is Breast Augmentation?
Copyright (c) 2007 Dr. Robert Kenevan
Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement or breast enhancement, is a surgical procedure used to increase the size of a woman’s breasts using either saline or silicone gel breast implants. Women may choose to have breast augmentation either to enhance their figure, as a reconstructive technique following breast surgery, to balance different sized breasts, or to balance the contours of the body.
Whatever the specific purpose, women who undergo breast augmentation can expect larger, firmer, and more visually satisfying breasts.
Although the national average of breast surgeons’ fees is between $3,000 and $4,000, this does not reflect the full amount a patient is likely to pay. Firstly, this figure may include the cost of breast implants themselves and their placement, but not the anesthesia, medical facility fee, prescriptions, surgical garments, medical testing, or any other charges related to pre- and post-operative care.
Secondly, the surgeon’s fee and related charges will fluctuate not only from region to region, but also from practice to practice. Cosmetic surgeons, surgical facilities, and anesthesiologists in larger cities or more affluent neighborhoods are likely to charge more for their services.
Finally, every breast enhancement procedure is unique and there are a variety of factors that will influence the breast augmentation surgery cost, including the type of implant chosen, the way it is placed, and the level of complexity presented by the particular case. If you are considering breast augmentation, be sure to ask you surgeon what fees will be charged and what those fees cover. Although the cost of breast augmentation should not be the determining factor in choosing a surgeon, you should be well informed about the overall cost of your procedure before beginning the process, in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
Standard Breast Augmentation Fees: Total Price: $5,000-$10,000 Surgeon’s fee: (can range from) $ 3000-$5000. Anesthesia: $700-$1500. Facility fee: $950-$1300. Implant fee: $1,300-$1800. Average Total Cost : $5000-7000.
It is difficult to provide a concrete figure of breast augmentation costs. This is because rates will vary related to where an individual is obtaining their treatment. The availability of plastic surgeons in an area will have a great effect on the costs of breast implants. Additionally, the professional reputation and expertise of plastic surgeons will also be reflected in the breast augmentation prices. As a result, famed plastic surgeons may charge more than plastic surgeons that are attempting to gain experience within the industry.
Although breast augmentation prices can be intimidating and most insurance companies do not cover the costs, you should know that most plastic surgeons offer financing options to help their patients find affordable options for breast enlargement surgery. Having the ability to finance breast implant surgery has made it a realistic option for millions of women each year.
By spreading out breast augmentation prices over a period of time, you will find that you will be able to afford this breast enlargement surgery much easier, especially when you have other financial obligations. There are some financial institutions that offer financing payments that are less than a hundred dollars a month.
